Learning Disabilities at Trust Center for Special Needs
Focused on Varied Learning Challenges:
The Trust Center for Special Needs specializes in assisting students with persistent academic performance issues compared to their peers. The decline is noticeable in one or more various learning skills such as basic reading, writing, arithmetic skills, or cognitive processes (memory, discrimination, concentration), as well as capabilities in speaking, listening, perception, and thinking.
Note on Assessment Process:
Before evaluating learning difficulties, an IQ test is administered to the student to determine their cognitive baseline. This is followed by an assessment of academic and developmental learning difficulties.
Developmental Learning Difficulties:
These difficulties are related to cognitive and mental processes and brain functions necessary for academic achievement. Often stemming from functional disorders in the central nervous system, these difficulties also affect pre-academic processes like memory, thinking, language, attention, and perception – fundamental elements of cognitive and mental activity.
Services Provided by the Center:
The center offers individual sessions by special education specialists, focusing on developing the aforementioned skills through specialized activities. These sessions follow a comprehensive evaluation of the student and several tests to pinpoint specific problems, leading to the creation of a suitable plan. This plan involves parental involvement and coordination with the student's educational institutions.
Academic Learning Difficulties:
These difficulties, closely related to developmental learning difficulties, affect cognitive academic performance.
· Math Difficulties: Impacting the ability to acquire arithmetic skills, students may struggle with auditory or visual perception of numbers, understanding numerical relationships, and performing mathematical operations.
· Motor Difficulties: Including sensory disorders like balance issues and coordination between vision and hand movements, affecting the student's ability to control and coordinate simple movements.
· Reading Difficulties: Students with this challenge have a reduced ability to acquire reading and writing skills, often leading to avoidance of these activities. Signs include difficulty in understanding reading material, spelling challenges, and inaccurate reading.
\
· Attention and Concentration Disorders: Manifested through distractibility and heightened sensitivity to external stimuli.
Individualized Approach:
The center's services include specialized activities tailored to each student’s needs, identified through comprehensive assessments and tests. This approach ensures the development of a strategic plan in cooperation with parents and relevant educational authorities.
